Sikkim is a magical state situated in the north eastern part of India, perched in the Himalayas. I have been to this place at least more than four times, in ten years, and I never get bored of it. I always have this feeling that the place is mystically calling me back there again and again. In fact I just came back from one more trip to this place, and now am inspired enough to do a small refreshing write up on it.
There are lots and lots of sites on the net where one can find tourist information and places of interest, so I am going to stick to contemplating over what the spell cast by this place is, which makes this place so charming, enchanting, and welcoming to the people who come here from all over the world. In today’s busy lifestyle, we all become so used to being selfish in various ways. And although we have come to accept that, we do grow tired of it. The moment one lands on the soils of Sikkim, breathing the fresh air abundant, the crisp cool breeze on your skin, one is taken aback at the fact that heaven is in fact a reality.
And it’s not only the absolutely spectacular view, and the amazingly pleasant weather that charms, but it’s also the warmth of the people here, the natives of Sikkim. The social animals that we are, we always seem to look for gratification from our fellow human beings and others around us. This place, and its dwellers do just that. Among themselves too, people are very cooperative and friendly. As one walks along the serene roads of Sikkim, one may notice that almost everybody knows everybody else. They wear kind smiles on their faces, and aren’t shy to express their happiness on seeing another familiar face. This attitude actually reflects the religion that people follow here. Their culture, religion and tradition has taught them, over time, that to be helpful and courteous to others around, is to help God Himself, and is the key to harmony and peace. People who have been to this place have practically seen, heard, and felt what it would be like in a peaceful world.
Besides the scenic beauty that Sikkim is famous for, it presents diverse culture, religion, biodiversity, spirituality and adventure. I am sure this place is an object of everyone’s fancies – the mystical, giant, looming, snow clad mountains, the thick shapely clouds below, bright and cool sunshine cutting through the crisp cold air, nature, trees, flora and fauna – mother nature at her finest, serene atmosphere aspersed with the mystical songs and sounds from monasteries all over the place, which perch on top of hills, and a flavor of the modernity of urban existence to cushion the change.
Take my word for it, Sikkim has a lot to offer to everyone. If you are looking for a place to really get away from it all, this place, I suggest, is worth putting on your travel list. But I should warn you, you might end up visiting this place more than once in your lifetime.
